Yep, I said, squinch.

I wish I could take credit for this awesome word, but I can't. It was invented by a photographer, Peter Hurley, as he attempted to get his photography subjects to look more attractive in photos.

Peter says that most people look like a deer in headlights when they see a camera. They open their eyes hugely, and then look... well they look dumb. Like they're afraid of the camera, and they look intensely unnatural.

He used to tell people to squint, but realized that wasn't quite what he was trying to get out of his models, because squinting looks dumb too. So he invented the word, "squinch," which means you limit the distance between your lower eyelid and your pupil... it's squinting and pinching your lower eyelid.

At first I thought he was a little nuts. Well, actually after watching this video, I still think he's a little nuts, but when you watch the whole video, you'll see he makes a pretty good point. Celebrities do a lot of squinching and they look good in photos, so I'll try it. Will you?
