Remember in the early days of the pandemic when Illinois shut down so every crossed the border into Wisconsin? Even though bars and restaurants were not suddenly shut down by the government, they eventually implemented mandatory face masks to be worn inside businesses and other public places. This, much to the chagrin of the some traveling Illinoisians who were against masks for the get-go. Guess what? Wisconsin is joining the "Our COVID cases are increasing like crazy" club and their Governor is pleading to residents to mask up.

We need folks to start taking this seriously, and young people especially—please stay home as much as you are able, skip heading to the bars, and wear a mask whenever you go out. We need your help to stop the spread of this virus, and we all have to do this together.

In a press release earlier this week, the governor of Wisconsin expressed concerns about a sudden rise in cases after a brief slowdown in August. The cheese state's heath officials point the finger at college campuses and younger residents.

Wisconsin is now experiencing unprecedented, near-exponential growth of the COVID-19 pandemic with the daily number of new cases rising from 678 on August 31st to 1,791 on September 21st, a 2.6-fold increase in three weeks, driven in part by the unprecedented number of infections among 18-24 year-olds.

Much like Wisconsin and several other states, COVID-19 cases are increasing, which makes health officials nervous as we approach fall and winter. This is why wearing masks in public is still encouraged while vaccine research continues.

We need to do everything we can now to slow the spread of COVID-19 and prepare for the winter. That is why we need to continue wearing masks and practicing physical distancing.

Wisconsin health officials are also encouraging residents to get flu shots to protect residents from the getting the flu.
