If someone shows up to your house with a flyer for a "free roof inspection", be very cautious.  Here's what you need to know.

As we head into the warmer months in Illinois, more door-to-door salesmen get out and about to try and sell residents on anything and everything.  A lot of times, they're selling a scam.

Here's how it works: someone knocks on your door, you don't answer, and they leave a flyer for a free roof inspection after seeing your roof is in need of some repair.  You already know it needs fixing, and they're attempting to take full advantage of that.

The biggest indicator this might be a scam?  The salesman will say they're "doing work in your neighborhood" and noticed some holes in your roof as they were passing by.  Classic salesman tactic to try and get on your roof.  Once they're up there, they could be DOING DAMAGE.  Keep that in mind.

Many aren't even licensed contractors.  They'll say you have major damage, somehow get you to sign a contract, give them "upfront payments" on a free inspection, and then you'll never see them again in your life.

Poof, they vanish.

Don't fall victim.  Yes, your roof might actually have damage, but there are better ways to go about getting an estimate.  Find reputable companies from friends, family, and check reviews online.

These scams are still happening across Illinois, and they’re targeting homeowners who just want to protect their property. Spread the word to your neighbors, especially seniors. A “free” inspection shouldn’t end up costing thousands.
