This past winter was brutally cold, and then the Spring was brutally wet. Both of these caused major problems for local farmers this year, and our favorite local orchards are feeling the hurt too.

One of my personal favorites, Valley Orchard in Cherry Valley, recently told WREX that "out of 600 apple trees planted this year, 40 didn’t survive". Valley Orchard's owners, the Bergersen family, says this is the worst planting season they've seen in 40 years.

If you're currently panicking about where to get your favorite apples, don't worry. Valley Orchard will still have plenty for picking, but the orchards will probably get picked over much sooner than usual this Fall.

Here's a little advice from me to you...if you've never been to Valley Orchard before, go there! If you've never tried their GLAZED cider donuts before, try those immediately! They are most definitely the thing that brings this girl to their orchard over...and over...and over again.
