We still have over a month of Summer left yet, but for weeks the talk has been all about Halloween and whether or not the date of it should be officially changed.

As I sit here and write this, the change.org petition to move the official date of Halloween to the last Saturday of October has 121,980 signatures and I am still on the fence if I should sign it or not. I am ALL IN for moving trick-or-treating to the last Saturday of October because doing it on a weeknight is so rushed and takes away from the fun of it. Not to mention, kids are a nightmare the next day for teachers and parents alike. I don't think the official date of Halloween needs to change though, why can't we just observe trick-or-treating city-wide on the last Saturday of October and leave the actual holiday on October 31st?

Now that I've said all that, if there was ever one thing that could sway me to sign the petition to change the date of Halloween, it is the promise of free candy. I have no shame in my candy game, and free Snickers bars are the stuff my dreams are made of. I am absolutely the type of person/Mom who holds back my favorite treats (Snickers/Butterfingers) from my kids and trick-or-treaters for my personal, private enjoyment later, so this tweet from Snickers satisfies me to the fullest...

So, what do you think? Will you sign the petition now that the promise of free Snickers is on the line? Do you think I should call Mayor McNamara and request that Rockford's trick-or-treating hours take place on the last Saturday of October? I'd love to hear your thoughts...
