I will truly never forget the pure embarrassment of taking my first Aldi trip ALONE and being faced with the experience that is getting a cart.

Just a little PSA, if you've never been to Aldi, take someone who has been before when you go for the first time. Why? Because Aldi is like a club, there are rules and certain things everyone does and if you don't know what to do you STAND OUT.

I've been there. I stared at the carts without a quarter for five minutes before I figured it out. So why do they do it?

According to MSN -

The cart rental system is all part of ALDI’s business plan to keep prices low. Making customers put down a small deposit to unlock a shopping cart keeps them from being left around the parking lot and potentially scratching or denting cars. It also keeps ALDI from having to send an employee out to collect them all day. “By not having to hire someone to police the shopping carts, we are able to pass the savings on to our customers,” ALDI states on their website.

It all kind of makes TOO much sense. They even have made different initiatives to really highlight the quarter system.

So next time you put your quarter in the cart, remember it's all part of a plan.
