
Rockford Teens Face Felony Charges in Back-to-Back Incidents
Two teenage boys are facing charges after they were involved in separate incidents that landed them in jail.
Gun, Stolen Weapon, and Xanax Found
Early on Tuesday morning (5/13), there were reports of an armed man in the 4400 block of East State Street, according to the Rockford PD report.
Upon arriving at the location around 3:30 am, officers discovered a 16-year-old male from Rockford who was allegedly carrying a loaded firearm with a high-capacity magazine, which was later discovered to have been stolen.
According to the press release, a bottle of Xanax pills was found on the individual during the search.
Rockford Teen Faces Serious Charges
After reviewing the facts in the case, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office has authorized the following charges against the 16-year-old teen:
- Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon without a Valid FOID
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
The teen was taken to the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center.
Stolen Vehicle Chase Ends in Arrest on West Side
Less than 24 hours from that incident on May 14, Rockford Police officers responded to another troubling case involving a teen.
Around 3:16 am, police attempted to stop a vehicle near Jonathan and Huffman Boulevard. The driver fled, but the vehicle was quickly found abandoned in the 2200 block of Auburn Street.
The 16-year-old male suspect was later located and arrested in the 2300 block of Benderwirt Avenue, according to the press release. He faces charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Fleeing and Elude.
Both teens were taken to the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center, where they are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
