Janesville Woman Must Find Abusive Husband Or Face Deportation

While the political divide over deportation continues in the United States, a Janesville woman must face the toughest decision of her life.

Maria Portugal has been in Wisconsin for 20 years and has been working to get a visa for the last three. Despite her efforts, according to WIFR, her lawyer says Immigration and Customs Enforcement are threatening deportation and separation from her children unless she finds her estranged husband and turns in him in for domestic abuse.

In a statement to WIFR, her son Mario said Maria's a good mom that wants the best for her and her family.

"She's a great mother and she didn't do anything wrong. She just wanted to have a free life and be happy."

Maria is not alone in wanting to stay in Janesville, as you'll see in this picture hundreds gathered to show their support.
