Local Fundraising Effort Turns Out To Be A Scam

If someone's recently hit you up for a donation to the Ellis Elementary basketball team, there's something you should know.

It turns out that whoever asked you for the donation is a scammer.

Ellis Elementary doesn't have a basketball team.

Scam artists, apparently wearing  Ellis T-shirts, have been around the community "collecting donations" for the aforementioned non-existent team. The Rockford Police Department says that no one from Rockford Public School District 205 has asked anyone to raise money for the Ellis team.

If you've been approached by one of these "fundraisers," anyone with information is asked to call Rockford police at 815-966-2900.
