Want the experience of living on the lake but don't want to pay the outrageous cost?

Well, it can happen and for us, in Rockford, it isn't far from home.

Matter of fact, it is such a popular location the town is packed to the gills during the summer. I actually know a family that just got back from this place too. I wonder if they might have made the trip because they're considering buying a place up there on the lake?

Either way, Wisconsin Dells might want to start reimaging their stature as more than just a place with some of the best indoor and outdoor waterparks in America.

That's because Realtor.com just listed Wisconsin Dells as one of the 10 Most Affordable Lake Towns in America for 2021.

Right behind Sandusky, Ohio (the setting for classic comedy Tommy Boy) sits Wisconsin Dells as the second-best spot for cheap lake houses in America.

Realtor.com:

Anglers from all over the Midwest flock to this rural destination for the awesome catch on manmade Lake Delton, two local rivers, and other, smaller bodies of water that are surrounded with lovely and affordable homes all along their shorelines.

But family members who aren’t into waiting hours (or what can feel like hours) for fish to bite have plenty of other entertainment options throughout the year as well, from wakeboarding and tubing on the water to minigolf and go-karts off it.

These are all things Illinois and Wisconsin people and really anyone who has visited Wisconsin Dells already knows, but I guess it's kind of surprising because maybe we've been taking advantage of how awesome the setup is in the Dells.

Apparently, condos on the aforementioned Lake Delton "start in the low $100,000s" on Realtor.com.

If you're thinking about a lake house on the cheap, act now. The housing market is on fire and I have a feeling these inexpensive places are getting snatched up quickly.

Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
