We live in a world where you have to always be skeptical of everything it seems like. But one thing in particular that's gotten extra sketchy over the years is scam phone calls. And it looks like fake calls from police are a new method used by phone scammers.

Illinois State Police say people throughout Illinois are receiving calls from people identifying themselves as State Troopers. WTVO details -

Victims are then asked for personal information, such as their name, birth date, and social security number. But, the phone numbers the call seems to be coming from are those of ISP districts. The technique of manipulating a phone number to mirror another is called “spoofing.” Government agencies are often targets for spoofing. The ISP says a trooper would never call to collect personal information.

So beware of any call you get that involves the Illinois State Police.
