Rockford’s Latest Teacher of the Week Reminds Us Why Great Teachers Matter
In a world where it sometimes feels like true connection is disappearing, one Rockford classroom proves it’s still alive and thriving. This week’s 97ZOK Teacher of the Week is being celebrated not just for teaching lessons, but for changing lives… by showing every student they matter. Her compassion, creativity, and unwavering belief in her kids have earned her something few ever forget: the trust of both students and parents who see her as so much more than “just a teacher.”
97ZOK Teacher of the Week

Congratulations to Adrienne Smith from Maria Montessori at Marsh in Rockford, Illinois.
Sara Stickels nominated Adrienne, she writes,
I would like to nominate Mrs. Smith for Teacher of the Week. She has been an incredible influence in my children’s lives—What makes her so special is not only her dedication to the Montessori philosophy but also the way she goes above and beyond it. She is attentive, compassionate, and deeply invested in each child’s success, both academically and personally. She connects with her students on a genuine level, taking time to understand who they are as individuals and encouraging them in ways that honor their strengths and needs.
I trust her with far more than my children’s education; I trust her with their growth, confidence, and wellbeing. The care she gives extends beyond the classroom walls, and it is clear that teaching for her is not just a job—it is a calling. She consistently models what it means to be an educator who is present, thoughtful, and wholeheartedly committed to her students. For these reasons, I believe Adrienne Smith is more than deserving of recognition as Teacher of the Week.
Adrienne's is a story of giving the world back the same beautiful energy it once gave to you. After my conversation with our new Teacher of the Week, I agree with Sara's statement above; it's clear this is "a calling" for Adrienne. (Audio below)
