I saw the City of Rockford post something on Facebook yesterday that made me smile.

It was about a simple thing that one Rockford woman is doing during this pandemic, and I think the difference this act of kindness is making in her community is bigger than she probably even realizes.

I know this woman wishes to remain anonymous, but I sure wish I knew her name because to me, this is the perfect example of the kind of Hometown Hero we like to honor each week.

In case you didn't know, JB and I choose a Hometown Hero nominated by YOU each week and award them a $100 Amazon gift card thanks to Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress. It's just our simple way of letting some amazing people here in the Stateline know their kind hearts and good deeds do not go unnoticed.

Every week we receive numerous nominations about our brave neighbors serving in the military, which we LOVE to honor, but I just want everyone to know the definition of "hero" is totally up to you.

We all have people in our lives that go out of their way to make us smile. Teachers who have touched our lives forever. Service industry staffers who make our everyday life so much easier. First responders and medical staff who have been there in some our darkest hours.  Neighbors, like the above mentioned Rockfordian, who's simple gesture could likely save countless lives.

We want to know about all those amazing people. No deed is too small. If it matters to you, it matters to us. Nominate your Hometown Hero now, here.

To the secret mask-sewing Rockfordian, thank you. I hope your kindness infects this entire community soon.
