It's been a long day. After a grueling 8 hours at the office and sitting in 30 minutes of gridlock while on the phone with your mom to discuss your son's upcoming high school graduation (on a Bluetooth headset of course), all you want to do is get home; open up the door and be greeted by the one and only thing on this planet that you feel really understands you- your dog. And since you don't have a Beggin' Strip in your pocket, the one thing you give him to show him your love is...a hug.

But stop right there. Apparently, your dog loathes having your loving arms wrapped around him. That's according to dog training expert and psychologist, Stanley Coren.

Coren looked at 250 photos of people hugging their dogs and found the dogs were giving signs of being uncomfortable, stressed or anxious in 81% of them.

What exactly was he looking for to determine that the dog just wasn't having any of it? These signs of distress:

* Bared Teeth

* Turning it's head away, sometimes closing of the eyes

* Licking, yawning or raising it's paw

I wanted to put this dog trainer/psychologist's theory to the test, so I took a photo of me with my boyfriend's dog, Cyrus and I personally think he looks elated. In fact, I think he's almost smiling. What do you think?
