While this little girl's note contained many words, it's the power of just two of them, that will own your heart.

I'd like to encourage you to spend just a few extra minutes with your kids showing them the virtue of saying "thank you." We've spoken on this subject ad nauseam in our homes.

Thanks for breakfast, mom.

Thanks for helping me with my homework, mom and dad.

Thanks for fixing my bike, dad.

But we would all benefit from teaching our children just how incredible it is for our souls to express gratitude everywhere. Focusing on what we're thankful for reminds us that things are not always as bad as they seem. Children would absolutely benefit from practicing gratitude as they are often prone to reacting to the smallest unpleasantness as if it is the end of the world. Practicing gratitude daily is a skill from which our children will greatly benefit as they get older.

While I don't know this little girl personally, I'll bet writing this thank you note to Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputies made her feel pretty good. And it should. That's what expressing gratitude does. I'm sure the deputies feel a bit better having received a note like this.
