Do You Own Illinois’ Most PUPular Dog Breed?

DOGS.

Dogs are the best thing to ever happen EVER. If I had a dollar for every dog I've asked to pet in passing by, I'd be rich enough to own way more dogs. Speaking of dogs, let's just take a second to appreciate how cute my dog Nelly is.

Nelly is a Beagle, Boxer, Bulldog mix! I adopted her, and when we did our doggie DNA test, those were the results. I love all dogs, but obviously some breeds come out as favorites when large groups of people are surveyed. A new survey revealed the most popular dog breed in every state.

So what is Illinois' favorite?

The bulldog! Amazing pick Illinois. Bulldogs are some of the cutest, most loving dogs there are.

I love Wisconsin's pick, but it's kind of basic. Amazing, but basic.

The famous Golden Retriever.

Personally, my two favorites on the list of favs? Spoiler alert - They're both hounds

Basset Hounds and Beagles! Time to indulge in the best part of owning a hound, the sounds they make.

Like ... WHAT? How do they make those sounds??? My dog is mainly beagle and she definitely has that "ROO" howl in her that she lets out sometimes and it's impressive and hilarious.

So how did they determine the state's favorites?

To find out, we turned to online search interest. Using a list of 40 notable dog breeds across the seven major groups—Working, Herding, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Hound, Terrier, and Toy—we explored Google search trends over the last 12 months for every state and the District of Columbia. We determined clear winners for the most searched dog breed in each state, the most searched dog breed overall, and how many states searched that breed the most.

Moral of the story - dogs are the best.
