I wish this were a joke. Wells Enterprises, the folks behind Blue Bunny and Halo Top, just issued a massive recall on more than 17,000 batches of ice cream and frozen yogurt.

Why? Because some of it might contain pieces of plastic. Yep. Plastic.

Say It Ain't So, Blue Bunny...

This isn't some randoom off-brand pint that's been sitting in the back of a skectch gas station freezer. This is Blue Bunny and Halo Top, these are staples in my freezer.

I can't tell you how many movie nights have involved these ice creams. Now, I'm side-eyeing my half-eaten tub like it betrayed me.

What's Being Recalled

According to the FDA, 22 flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt, sold in 3-gallon tubs, are affected. The recalled products have "Best If Used By" dates from March to October 2026 and were distributed to 103 centers across the U.S., including one right here in Illinois, in Rosemont.

The recall is labeled Class II, meaning any health risk is likely temporary or reversible, and the chances of serious issues are low. Still... It's plastic. In ice cream. And we're supposed to chill?

Unfortunately, there are no clear consumer instructions in the FDA report, and that's frustrating. If you've got Blue Bunny or Halo Top in your freezer and are concerned, your best bet is to check the company's website or fill out their customer contact form. In the meantime, I'll be mourning mint chocolate chip.
