Wisconsin Is Famous For Cheese

Unless you did not know that Wisconsin existed, then I am sure it is a pretty safe bet that you know the fact Wisconsin is famous for cheese.

I think pretty much every town and exit off the highway in Wisconsin is home to its own local cheese shop. It seems like they are everywhere.

With so many cheese shops in the state of Wisconsin, the competition must be fierce. That makes being around the longest something really special.

The Oldest Cheese Shop In Wisconsin

The cheese shop that holds the honor of being the oldest in Wisconsin is Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern in Monroe, Wisconsin.

According to baumgartnercheese.com,

"Featuring some of Wisconsin's finest cheese, imported cheese, specialty foods, and much more, Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern, opened in 1931, is Wisconsin's oldest cheese store! In addition to our popular retail store, you can enjoy great food and locally brewed beers at our adjoining tavern! We are conveniently located in the quaint Swiss community of Monroe, a rich cheese-producing area in southern Wisconsin."

Short Drive From Rockford

If you are looking to get out of town for a little adventure, I recommend taking a road trip up to Monore to visit Baumgartner's. I have been there and the food is delicious. Definitely worth the drive.
