Pay Off Illinois Tollway Fines Before End Of Year To Save Money

To save money, pay off your tollway fines in Illinois before the end of the year.

Unless you are a regular on the Illinois Tollway,  sometimes it is difficult to keep track of all the rules and regulations. They are changing all the time. If you do not stay on top of it, you could end up with a bunch of fines.

If you never take any toll roads ever, then you have nothing to worry about. It does not matter if you drive on them a couple of times a year, every day, or somewhere in between. This is what I recommend because I believe it is your best-case scenario.

I feel like I have the experience to give you advice. I take I-90 a few times a month to visit my mother in the suburbs. I have been doing that for years.

If you do not have one yet, just suck it up and get an I-PASS for your vehicle. When you own multiple cars, get an individual transponder for each one. That way you do not have to worry about sharing it and making sure you have it before hitting the road. If it is not in your vehicle, the toll charge is full price. You do not get that nice little I-PASS discount, which adds up fast.

My next suggestion is to set it up with autopay. That way you do not have to worry about making sure the account has money on it. If your account is empty when you drive through a toll, you will get a fine. Again, those fees go up quickly. It can make the deposit a low amount so you do not crash your bank account. Plus, your money is safe if you do not drive on the tollway a lot.

Of course, there is the factor of speed. As a member of I-PASS, you can cruise through a toll without stopping. The pay lines can really back-up. Plus, the manual lines are not open, so either way, you are going to have to go online to take care of the cost. They only give you so many days to cover the fees and then fines start. Those can add up too.

There have been some technical issues with the pay online system, so if you are late with your fees the cost goes up. By the way, if you ever have problems with tollway fines, you should call them. Most of the time, they will give you a break on the fees.
