At first, it sounds like the library is looking to attract a new demographic, but that's not the case. You might even be surprised why these books are "banned."

Rockford Public Library is giving kids (and everyone) a chance to read books that are banned from school libraries because of the "controversy" surrounding the stories. These are "sensitive" times but should there really a ban on books like Catcher in the Rye, Huckleberry Finn, and The Color Purple?

The library doesn't think so, in fact, they're embracing the reasons these books are banned from school libraries. Librarian Janet Shook had this to say to MyStateline.com,

We don’t want to bury knowledge. We want everybody to have access to knowledge, and so, we’re just trying to point out [that] these books are banned. Maybe you don’t think they should be, and that’s for you to decide.
