According to a new study, two neighborhoods in Rockford are among the 25 most dangerous neighborhoods in America.

When I told family and friends that I accepted a job in Rockford, their first response was, "you aren't moving there, are you?" I'm still pretty new to the area and from what I've seen, Rockford seems like a pretty nice place. The homes have a lot of character and charm, there's no shortage of places to shop and eat so I'm not sure where all the hype about Rockford being a "bad" place is coming from.

I'm not in a place to say anything negative about the city itself but NeighborhoodScout.com revealed that there are two neighborhoods in Rockford that made the list of top 25 Most Dangerous Neighborhoods in the US. The neighborhood around Seventh Street and East Jefferson ranked fifth worst in the study. The area around Rockton Avenue and West State Street was ranked eighteenth worst.

The state of Illinois, with a total of 6 neighborhoods on the list, has more than any other state in the country.

Would you agree with Neighborhood Scout's assessment? How dangerous do you feel the city of Rockford is, if at all?
