Was Your Car Running Rough This Morning? This Might Be the Reason

If you have lived in northern Illinois or southern Wisconsin long enough you know the wear-and-tear winter weather can have on your vehicle. This is a little reminder before you rush to your mechanic or waste time on Google.

In the fall I made the leap into buying an almost brand new vehicle. You can imagine the level of anxiety I reached when my car was driving rough down Bypass 20 in the early morning hours. "Oh no, what is going on? Are my tiring bad? What could be the problem?. were a few of the questions that popped into my head. This lead to a Google search that resulted in an answer which eased my anxiety. In fact, by late afternoon, I knew what the issue was, snow.

One of the questions I Googled was, "does extreme cold cause vehicles to run rough?" One of the first responses came from a website in an area that seems to get more snow than us, the Jersey area.

The issue is the ice and snow build up in the wheels and cause the tires to become unbalanced. This can be a minor steering wheel shake to feeling like the wheels are going to fall off the car. (northjersey.com)

If this were the case I would have to patiently wait for the temperature to rise to find out. I also moved my car to be in direct sunlight. Luckily the weather sun was beaming and the temperature was decent Tuesday afternoon. At around 2 pm I took my car for a quick trip up and down Bypass 20 and, sure enough, it was riding much better.
