We all know that when we're in a dark, secluded area anywhere, we need to stay alert and aware of our surroundings, especially when we are alone. Too often we get distracted in these kinds of situations, and our "alertness" might not be at the level it should be. Here's another reminder of why that can't happen.

A Winnebago resident named Mandi Jennings recently posted a warning on Facebook that I knew I needed to share with you. It said;

Ladies and HCPs. I took a CPR class taught by a 911 operator yesterday. There is a gang initiation in Rockford where someone will lay between cars like they are hurt or dead. Others are nearby waiting to take you. They also use babies in car seats. Please be aware of your surroundings and call 911 before helping someone especially in a parking lot or secluded area. If you feel strange about it, just call 911 and go get help. Make sure you are safe!

I know most of us feel the urge to help when we encounter someone who appears to be in trouble, but our own safety has to always be the top priority. If you see someone in trouble, but feel uneasy about the surroundings, turn around and get help before you approach anyone alone. Let our highly trained police and medical personnel be the heroes in a situation like this, that's what they are there for.
