Don Carter Shooting Survivors Spent Day Raising Money For Victims

The Rockford-area community is still reeling in shock over the tragic mass shooting that took place at Don Carter Lanes last Saturday, and I can only imagine how the survivors who witnessed the terror first hand are feeling.

Two of the survivors, Skylur Dalsanto and his fiancé Andrea Chavez, are Shooters Tap Room employees who were there hanging out with a friend when the shooting happened. Instead of hiding out consumed by grief these last few days, the pair decided to pour their emotions into a shovel and a plow truck on Wednesday to help raise money for the shooting victims and their families.

According to 13-WREX;

They decided as a group why don't we plow for $20 for anyone who needs it, and give the money to the victims fund," says taproom manager Jamey Funk. "They're just happy to be able to put some good back into a really bad situation."

Thanks to the generous hearts of this couple and the Stateline community who responded to their offer, around 40 drives were cleared in the Rockford area yesterday.

Say what you will about Rockford, but when bad things happen, this community always steps up in support, and that makes me so proud to call this city my hometown.

Don't forget that the candlelight vigil originally scheduled for Tuesday night has been rescheduled for this Saturday, Jan 2, starting at 4:30 p.m. in the North parking lot of Don Carter Lanes. If you are unable to attend the vigil in person, please light a candle at home and say a prayer of peace for the shooting victims and their families.
