Letter To Fans From Chicago Bears President Ted Phillips

Chicago Bears President, Ted Phillips, sends a letter to fans.

Without even knowing it, I was born a Chicago Bears fan. That is because my family already was huge supporters, so that is what I grew up with. Of course, I immediately became a fan too.

I remember picking out my very first Chicago Bears jersey out of the Sears catalog. It was number 34, Walter Payton. I got it for Christmas from Santa. Through the years, I have owned several different ones. My latest is a number 52, Khalil Mack. Do not worry, I still have a Payton one too.

My family started purchasing season tickets from another fan in 1980. By 1982, we had our own set of seats. I have been to many games in my life and experienced several great moments in team history. I have witnessed many bad ones too.

Every once in a while, someone will ask me why I waste money on the Bears. It is a simple answer. I am a fan. My whole family is. Going to games and supporting the team is something we all do together.

This past season, I was not exactly sure what to expect. They started out so well. Then, there was the long losing streak. The Bears snuck into the playoffs only to be one and done. Overall, it was a disappointing season. I was really hoping for some serious changes in the organization. I did not expect them to do anything but I wanted new people starting with the president on down.  It did not happen.

As a season ticket holder, at the end of each season, we get a letter from the team. It usually comes from Ted Phillips, the team president. I was very interested in what he had to say. I thought an apology for an underwhelming showing would have been appropriate. That did not happen.

I just received the letter through email today, so I thought I would share it with you.

Though I do appreciate the COVID updates for 2021, I would have much rather had more information about the actual team. It will be interesting to see what they do this off-season to improve the team.
