If your picnics, BBQs and days floating down the Rock River include a cooler full of ice cold sodas, be prepared to spend a little more in the summers to come.

In hopes of ending the states budget crisis, Illinois lawmakers are considering a tax on sugary drinks.

According to MyStateline, the tax would charge one cent per ounce (the city of Philadelphia is considering adding a three cent tax and people are outraged) which would come out to $1.44 extra on a 12-pack or 68 cents for a two liter; bringing in roughly $375 million.

This isn't the first time the state has considered taxing sugary drinks. The idea was brought up back in March for an entirely different reason- to fight obesity. Any revenue from sales, should it have been approved back then, would've gone to health programs. Should it get the green light this time, the money would go towards raising money for the state.

As someone who doesn't drink a lot of sugary drinks and has already accepted the fact that the state gouges me every time I want to buy new clothes (sorry, in Minnesota they don't tax clothes and I miss that), I think this would be a great idea.  Anything the help get the state of Illinois get back on track is good with me.
